Interactive floor plans

See and control your site from the plan

Plan view is a zencontrol cloud feature that allows you to upload floor plans for each level of your site and place control systems and device locations directly onto those plans. Once placed, you can view and edit the devices and groups from the plan itself, rather than working from lists and spreadsheets.

The result is an intuitive, visual interface that makes complex sites easy to understand. Lights, sensors, switches and emergency fittings are shown in context, so anyone familiar with the building can quickly see what is installed, how it is performing and where issues are located.

Built for facilities, maintenance and projects

  • Facility managers: understand layouts, status and issues across floors, tenancies and buildings.
  • Maintenance teams: locate devices precisely, see fault details and log work as they go.
  • Planners and consultants: review coverage, zoning and emergency layouts against as-built plans.
  • Tenants: see their own areas on familiar floor plans, without access to the rest of the building.
  • Integrators: commission and refine systems from the plan, not just from a grid of device IDs.

How it works

From floor plan upload to live, interactive view

Plan view combines your architectural drawings with the live configuration of your zencontrol system. Each plan is tied to a specific floor, and each device or group placed on that plan is linked back to its underlying control system and data.

Typical workflow

  • Upload floor plans for each level or area of your site to the zencontrol cloud.
  • Assign each plan to a floor and align the scale so devices and spaces match the real building.
  • Drag and drop device locations and control systems onto the plan to match their physical positions.
  • Group devices and define scenes, targets and schedules with full visual context.
  • Use filters and layers to toggle devices, groups, issues, emergency fittings and other overlays on and off.

Once a floor is configured, the plan becomes a live view of the building. Icons reflect current state and issues, and clicking on an item opens its details and controls in the side panel while maintaining context on the plan.

Faults & maintenance

Find and fix issues in seconds, not days

When faults occur, the hardest part is often working out where the problem is. Plan view shows the precise location of issues on the floor plan, so maintenance teams no longer have to interpret device IDs or cross-reference spreadsheets against drawings.

Issues directly on the plan

  • Issues are automatically displayed on the floor plan for the relevant level.
  • Fault icons remain visible even when zoomed out, making hotspots easy to spot.
  • Clicking a fault opens full details – including device type, fault type and associated test results.
  • Maintenance teams can zoom in to the exact fitting, corridor or escape path in a few clicks.

For emergency lighting, plan view makes it simple to see which device locations are failing tests and which have been repaired but still require re-testing. Combined with zencontrol’s test manager, this supports a traceable, location-based maintenance workflow.

Control & tuning

Control lights, scenes and targets from the floor plan

Plan view is not just for monitoring – it is a control surface for your building. From the plan, you can interact with individual devices, groups and scenes to adjust behaviour and fine-tune performance.

Live control from a familiar layout

  • Click on lights, sensors or switches to view and adjust key parameters and settings.
  • Change light levels and scenes room by room while standing in the space and watching the effect.
  • Assign or adjust groups directly from the plan, keeping logical groupings aligned to the physical layout.
  • View and edit comfort, power or lux targets in context, helping you match design intent and energy goals.

For integrators, plan view speeds commissioning and later modifications. For facility teams, it makes everyday tasks – like tweaking scenes in a boardroom or adjusting corridor lighting – faster and easier to get right.

Cloud & onsite

Use plan view in the cloud and onsite

Plan view is available in the zencontrol cloud, where it forms part of a multi-site, multi-tenant portfolio view. It can also be used as part of the optional zencontrol onsite software for sites that prefer local management while still benefiting from a plan-based interface.

Flexible deployment

  • Cloud plan view: manage one site or a whole portfolio with central logins, user access control and cloud backups of configuration and plans.
  • Onsite plan view: use interactive plans on a local head-end for offline or isolated networks, with the same visual representation of assets and issues.
  • Import and export plan configurations between cloud and onsite environments to support different operating models.
  • Support for very large sites and campuses, with tens of thousands of devices represented across multiple floors and buildings.

Whether your priority is centralised corporate governance or local resilience, zencontrol’s plan view options allow you to adopt a floor-plan-based interface that matches your IT and operational requirements.

Tenancies & access

Plan view that respects user access control

Plan view is tightly integrated with zencontrol’s user access control and tenancy model. Every plan, device and issue is subject to the same access rules that govern who can see and change each part of the system.

Visual control within the right boundaries

  • Users only see the sites, floors and tenancies they have been granted access to – including in plan view. Base-build and other tenants’ areas remain hidden.
  • Permissions define whether a user can view only, control lighting, modify configuration or perform commissioning actions from the plan.
  • Tenancy owners can manage their leased areas on the plan without affecting other parts of the building.
  • Central facilities teams retain a whole-of-site plan view while contractors and tenants see a limited, scoped subset.

Combined with zencontrol’s detailed audit trails, plan view supports governed, traceable changes – so it is always clear who adjusted a scene, changed a group or altered emergency behaviour for a given area on the plan.
